The breach of Vyazma and Bryansk

During less than a week of the exchange of fire between the Red Army and German Panzer corps in Vyazma and Bryansk, the Red Army’s 300-mile-long defense was breached, which caught the General Staff and Stalin by surprise. The seemingly unbreakable defense line was tumbling in under the sweeping of the “Typhoon.”
Scout planes of the Moscow air force found fleets of German armored vehicles on the Moscow highway, which was only 120 miles away from Moscow. When Stalin realized the severity of the situation, he ordered to stop the Germans at all cost, but the only available forces were Podolsk cadets.
